The Son is an American western drama boob tube serial based on the 2013 novel of the aforementioned name by Philipp Meyer. The show was created and developed by Meyer, Brian McGreevy, and Lee Shipman.[ane] Twenty episodes over two seasons aired from Apr 8, 2017, through June 29, 2019.

Plot [edit]

Powerful cattle baron and prospective oilman Eli McCullough, who was kidnapped at the age of 13 by Comanches and grew upward to become a ruthless tycoon, struggles to connect with his son as other forces threaten his empire and family in Texas.

Production [edit]

Originally, Sam Neill was gear up to play the chief character of the series, just left due to personal reasons. Pierce Brosnan was cast to replace him.[three] The product of the series started in June 2016.[4]

A 10-episode season premiered on AMC on April 8, 2017.[5] On May 12, 2017, the serial was renewed for a second season.[6] The 2nd and terminal season premiered on April 27, 2019.[seven]

Reception [edit]

The offset season received mixed reviews among critics. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the starting time season has an approval rating of 52% based on 27 reviews, with an average rating of v.9/10. The site'south critical consensus reads, "The Son 's epic narrative and potent key operation are crippled past sluggish pacing, hasty management, and superficial execution."[27] On Metacritic, the series has a score of 57 out of 100, based 22 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[28]
